Based upon the work of Dr. Maria Montessori, the Montessori Method is a comprehensive, hands-on educational approach that is globally recognized for outstanding success in developing the whole child. It provides a stimulating environment in which the child can explore and learn in a manner that promotes a lifelong love of learning and provides the self-control necessary to fulfill that love. The Montessori philosophy has been in use for over a century and has proven to be as highly relevant and effective today as when it was first introduced.
The Montessori Method encourages the child to become a keen observer through various prepared activities, enabling the child to develop the ability to master the skills of kinetic movement, spatial refinement, fine and gross motor skill coordination, concrete knowledge and ultimately abstraction. Under the direction of our certified Montessori teachers, these activities allow us to focus on the individuality of each child, respecting his or her particular needs and talents, and encouraging the child's independence and freedom with limits and responsibility.
The Montessori Method defines distinct sensitive periods of development during which the child is particularly open to learning specific skills or knowledge. At the Montessori School of Greenville, we offer both a Primary Program (ages 3-6) and an Elementary Program (ages 6-9) which are designed to be academic, age-appropriate and allow independence and growth. We view each child as a unique individual with limitless potential to achieve competence, refine skills and develop a lifelong passion for the joy of learning.
